Since June 28, 2025, the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) has been in force. Many business owners ask: Am I even affected? And if so - what do I need to do?
The BFSG implements the EU Accessibility Directive into German law. Goal: make digital products and services accessible to people with disabilities. The legal basis is WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
In practice: texts need sufficient contrast, images need alt texts, navigation must work by keyboard, videos require subtitles.

1.Do you offer digital products or services to consumers?
2.Do you run an online shop, booking system or SaaS product?
3.Does your company have 10 or more employees or more than €2M annual revenue?
The BFSG applies to businesses offering consumers digital products or services - regardless of location or size.
Exception: Micro-enterprises with fewer than 10 employees AND annual turnover below €2 million are exempt from some requirements.
Bottom line: If you run an online shop, SaaS product or booking website with consumers as customers, you are very likely affected.
